9.2.2010 Lithuanian Independence Day Concert at the National Philharmonic Hall
On February 16th, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society invites to a special event, commemorating the Lithuanian Independence Day, held under the patronage of Her Excellency President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė. Among the performers featured in this concert are the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Kaunas State Choir, soprano Asta Krikščiūnaitė, baritone Vytautas Juozapaitis and conductor Juozas Domarkas.
“The Council of Lithuania, as the sole representative of the Lithuanian nation, based on the recognised right to national self-determination, and on the Vilnius Conference’s resolution of September 18–23, 1917, proclaims the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania, founded on democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital, and declares the termination of all state ties which formerly bound this State to other nations” – reads the fragment from the Act of Independence of Lithuania signed by the Council of Lithuania on February 16, 1918, in Vilnius.
To commemorate this important date the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society invites the audiences to a concert, celebrating the Independence Day with the uplifting sounds of symphonic music, delightful choral and solo voices. The programme of this special event offers a selection of works that came to symbolise the Lithuanian musical identity, as well as pieces from the well-known operatic and orchestral repertoire. The baton of maestro Juozas Domarkas, the winner of the Lithuanian National Arts and Culture Prize, will unite some of the leading performers on the Lithuanian classical music scene: the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (artistic director and principal conductor Juozas Domarkas), the Kaunas State Choir (artistic director and principal conductor Petras Bingelis), soprano Asta Krikščiūnaitė and baritone Vytautas Juozapaitis.
Please note, this concert starts at 6 pm. Tickets are available at the National Philharmonic Box Office and via the Bilietai.lt national ticketing system. The total revenue for the tickets to this concert will be contributed to organising a concert of young Lithuanian musicians.
