The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra opens its season with two trailblazing soloists for the audiences in Lithuania and Australia
October 5th, Wednesday, at 7pm, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (Artistic Director Sergej Krylov) will open its concert season at the National Philharmonic Hall together with two young musicians who have gained international acclaim through their trailblazing performances. The Anniversary Releases of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society are now in stores!
From September 2010 through May 2011 the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society celebrated its 70th Anniversary Season. The perpetual flow of season’s musical events (the anniversary slogan was aptly styled as ‘perpetuum mobile’) has been accompanied by various celebratory occasions, as well as by the newly conceived series of recordings. Will the warning siren close the Vilnius Festival?
The closing date of this year’s Vilnius Festival, June 14th, coincides with the Day of Mourning and Hope, marking the beginning of mass deportations by the Soviets in 1941. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of this sad occasion, the closing concert will feature a Requiem written by Lithuanian composer Vidmantas Bartulis in 1989. Performed a number of times and released on CD, this time the piece will be accompanied by specially produced visualisations. MoreMore

Rota conducts Rota: music and film at the Vilnius Festival
On June 9th, the Vilnius Festival presents an orchestral music concert “Rota Conducts Rota” dedicated to the birth centenary of Nino Rota, one of the best known Italian film composers. Under the baton of Marcello Rota, the composer’s nephew, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and two soloists – Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak and Lithuanian double bassist Donatas Bagurskas – present a retrospective, featuring Rota’s orchestral scores and fragments from the soundtracks for the films by Fellini, Zeffirelli and Coppola. Drums for the Kings

Recital of David Geringas and Ian Fountain Duo and the world premiere
For 15 years, the Vilnius Festival has nourished the tradition of hosting cosy chamber music evenings and initiating the premieres of works by Lithuanian composers – this tradition will be carried on in one of the upcoming concerts. On June 2nd, the National Philharmonic presents a programme of works for cello and piano, to be performed by the unsurpassed master of the cello David Geringas (Germany) and pianist Ian Fountain (United Kingdom) – a performer renown for his technique and intellectual sophistication. Čiurlionis Quartet to pitch in the “Street Musicians Day”
On May 7th, at noon, the Čiurlionis Quartet will join the street musicians, participating in the annual Street Musicians Day. The Quartet will appear on the bridge above the Pasažo (Passage) lane, which connects two buildings of the National Philharmonic Society, and dedicate its performance to the centenary year of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The approximate duration of their performance is 40 minutes. Depending on the weather conditions, this appearance may also take place under the arch on the same lane. Azerbaijan Capriccio in Vilnius
On May 7th, at 7pm, the stage of the National Philharmonic Hall will be shared by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the musicians from Azerbaijan. This concert is part of the Hazar-Baltic project. The objective of this project is to encourage the knowledge of Lithuanian and Azerbaijan culture within the European context and to stimulate the cultural exchange and mutual cooperation in the area of arts and science. In 2010, joint programmes of music performers and artistic organisations have begun in Lithuania and Azerbaijan. The return of violinist Dalia Dėdinskaitė and the world premiere by Arvydas Malcys

Coming with the vernal winds from Klaipėda and Switzerland
On April 27, Wednesday, at 7 pm, the National Philharmonic Hall will host guest performers from Klaipėda and Switzerland. The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra under its artistic director Mindaugas Bačkus will accommodate itself on the philharmonic stage for the performance of the Schubert’s ever popular Death and the Maiden Quartet (version for string orchestra). VILNIUS FESTIVAL 2011: seven evenings ushering in the summer season
This year the 15th Vilnius Festival will usher in the musical summer season with seven concerts to be presented at the National Philharmonic Hall and the National Opera and Ballet theatre in Vilnius from May 31st to June 14th. One hundred years after Čiurlionis
On April 10th, 2011, we will commemorate the death centenary of MIKALOJUS KONSTANTINAS ČIURLIONIS (22 September 1875 – 10 April 1911). One hundred years after his death, the phenomenon of Čiurlionis remains as fascinating as ever before: it rouses curiosity mainly due two the twofold nature of his artistic talent. His work as a composer and progenitor of Lithuanian professional music savours of the cultural atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century in Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Russia, where he lived during various periods of his life. Meet the enthusiasts of contemporary music: the ASCH Trio

All three had studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and now perform all over the world. On March 26th, Saturday, at 7 pm, the National Philharmonic Hall offers an orchestral music concert and presents two young artists who are currently building successful careers on the European music scene: conductor Aleksandar Markovič and violinist Rūta Lipinaitytė. Orchestral Music Concert and Two Capital M’s
On March 12th, 7pm, the National Philharmonic invites to a Saturday orchestral music concert. The stage will be shared by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and emerging musical stars, including the Latvian pianist Lauma Skridė, rapidly gaining international acclaim and two prize winners of international competitions: harpsichordist Vaiva Eidukaitytė-Storastienė and the final year pupil at the Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis School of Arts, a harpist Aistė Baliunytė. The concert will be conducted by Ronald Zollman, a Belgian conductor already familiar to the Lithuanian audiences. The Nordic Soundscapes of Finland
On March 5th, Saturday, at 7 pm, the National Philharmonic Hall invites to an evening of Finnish orchestral music which might be described as the show of tone painting. The programme presented by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under young Lithuanian conductor Dainius Pavilionis features works by the most prominent Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, including tone poem Finlandia, the Violin Concerto in D minor and the Fifth Symphony. Violinist Philippe Graffin returns to Vilnius to perform with the LCO

Peter Laul to Make His Debut at the National Philharmonic Hall under the baton of Robertas Šervenikas Whose Eyes Are Set on London
On February 19th, at 7 pm, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra invites its listeners to the symphonic music evening at the National Philharmonic Hall, presenting a guest from Russia, pianist Peter Laul, who will perform Scriabin’s Piano Concerto. The orchestra, conducted by Robertas Šervenikas, will share the stage with opera singer Inesa Linaburgytė in the performance of Vytautas Laurušas’ Simphonia Latina for mezzo-soprano and orchestra. The orchestra’s musicians will demonstrate an exceptional technical excellence at the end of the concert, when they will perform the highly intricate music by Igor Stravinsky that few orchestras manage to perform with due technique: the programme features a suite comprised of the most characteristic pieces from his ballet Petrouchka. This Saturday, February, at 7 pm, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society will commemorate the death centenary of Gustavo Mahler (1860–1911) by giving a performance of his epic Third Symphony at the National Philharmonic Hall. The concert’s cast features a sizeable team of Lithuanian performers: the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under its principal conductor Juozas Domarkas will be augmented by Liepaitės and Ąžuoliukas choruses, as well as mezzo-soprano Laima Jonutytė. The echoes of Arab culture to be broadcast live by Euroradio from Vilnius
The coming Saturday, February 5th, the Klasika programme of the Lithuanian Radio will invite the multi-million audience of the Euroradio to tune in and listen to the programme presented by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra especially for the “Arabesque” series presented by Euroradio. A Glance at the Two Alleged Rivals – Mozart and Salieri
On January 29th, at 7 pm, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra will host Susanna Yoko Henkel, a gifted violinist of young generation who has already made her appearance with this orchestra in May 2008 and invited it to perform at the Zagreb Chamber Music Festival last autumn. Born into the family of Japanese and German musicians, she is often regarded the heiress of Anne-Sophie Mutter. National Philharmonic Maintains the Tempo of its 70th Anniversary Events
Having chosen perpetuum mobile as a slogan for its 70th anniversary season, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society keeps up its pace and offers an intense calendar of events for the coming half-year. From January through May 2011 fifty seven different programmes are to be presented at various venues in Vilnius. Six new programmes will continue the Music in Trakai Castle series. Many repeat or specially prepared performances will be given in tows and villages across Lithuania. Reflections of the 18th and 20th centuries at a concert of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra
The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (LCO) continues its 50th anniversary series and presents yet another rendezvous with famous musicians. On November 6th, at 7pm, the orchestra will share the stage of the National Philharmonic Hall with pianist Povilas Stravinskas, who has made Seattle his home two decades ago and kept visiting Lithuania with regular appearances ever since then. The Vilnius String Quartet celebrates its 45th anniversary with a series of concerts

Undergrowth Concerts continue to showcase young stars in the making
The National Philharmonic Society carries on with a unique tradition to give the big stage to the young musicians – our musical ‘undergrowth.’ This Sunday, October 10th, at 12 pm, the concert in the Undergrowth Series presents three twenty-year-olds, who have already demonstrated their fascinating abilities in many countries. The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under young conductor Dainius Pavilionis will accompany violinist Agata Daraškaitė, cellist Justas Kulikauskas and pianist Motiejus Bazaras.
