The Protecting Veil by John Tavener – a Cult British Composer and Creator of Sacred Music – to be Performed at the National Philharmonic

In October 2011 the German label The Spot Records released the album of Mozart works for violin and orchestra interpreted by young and acclaimed German-Japanese violinist Susanne Yoko Henkel. Musical Thanksgivings and Doxologies
Coming Saturday, on February 4, the orchestral music concert at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall will feature the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra together with an illustrious roster of guest performers: soprano Asta Krikščiūnaitė, who was recently named among the recipients of the 2011 Lithuanian National Arts and Culture Prize, the Kaunas State Choir, and French conductor Olivier Grangean who has made some unforgettable appearances in Vilnius in the past few years. January 21, at 7 pm, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra invites its audiences to its first concert this year at the Main Auditorium of the National Philharmonic Hall. The programme features works by Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and contemporary Spanish composer Víctor Carbajo. Gathering Pace in Year 2012
Christmas and New Year concerts were followed by the period of seeming calm at the National Philharmonic Society. But this state will not last long. Special event concerts will soon open the gates to the year 2012. During January – February, the Philharmonic is planning to present more than 50 concert programmes in Vilnius alone. Another 8 programmes are going to take place in Trakai, as part of the traditional Music in Trakai Castle series. The 2nd Vilnius Piano Music Festival Begins
The programme of the 2nd Vilnius Piano Music Festival (November 9–26) brings a distinct colour into the varicoloured kaleidoscope of events to be held at the Main Auditorium of the National Philharmonic Hall this autumn. The second edition of the festival is dedicated to the 200th Anniversary of Franz Liszt and also commemorates the centenary of death of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The Anniversary Releases of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society are now in stores!
From September 2010 through May 2011 the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society celebrated its 70th Anniversary Season. The perpetual flow of season’s musical events (the anniversary slogan was aptly styled as ‘perpetuum mobile’) has been accompanied by various celebratory occasions, as well as by the newly conceived series of recordings. Will the warning siren close the Vilnius Festival?
The closing date of this year’s Vilnius Festival, June 14th, coincides with the Day of Mourning and Hope, marking the beginning of mass deportations by the Soviets in 1941. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of this sad occasion, the closing concert will feature a Requiem written by Lithuanian composer Vidmantas Bartulis in 1989. Rota conducts Rota: music and film at the Vilnius Festival
On June 9th, the Vilnius Festival presents an orchestral music concert “Rota Conducts Rota” dedicated to the birth centenary of Nino Rota, one of the best known Italian film composers. Under the baton of Marcello Rota, the composer’s nephew, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and two soloists – Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak and Lithuanian double bassist Donatas Bagurskas – present a retrospective, featuring Rota’s orchestral scores and fragments from the soundtracks for the films by Fellini, Zeffirelli and Coppola. Čiurlionis Quartet to pitch in the “Street Musicians Day”
On May 7th, at noon, the Čiurlionis Quartet will join the street musicians, participating in the annual Street Musicians Day. The Quartet will appear on the bridge above the Pasažo (Passage) lane, which connects two buildings of the National Philharmonic Society, and dedicate its performance to the centenary year of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The approximate duration of their performance is 40 minutes. Depending on the weather conditions, this appearance may also take place under the arch on the same lane. Azerbaijan Capriccio in Vilnius
On May 7th, at 7pm, the stage of the National Philharmonic Hall will be shared by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the musicians from Azerbaijan. This concert is part of the Hazar-Baltic project. The objective of this project is to encourage the knowledge of Lithuanian and Azerbaijan culture within the European context and to stimulate the cultural exchange and mutual cooperation in the area of arts and science. In 2010, joint programmes of music performers and artistic organisations have begun in Lithuania and Azerbaijan.
