The new CD featuring the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra has recently appeared on the classical music shelves of the record stores. In October 2011 the German label The Spot Records released the album of Mozart works for violin and orchestra interpreted by young and acclaimed German-Japanese violinist Susanne Yoko Henkel. For the first time, she was not only performing as a soloist, but also as the leader of the excellent Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.

Musical Thanksgivings and Doxologies
Coming Saturday, on February 4, the orchestral music concert at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall will feature the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra together with an illustrious roster of guest performers: soprano Asta Krikščiūnaitė, who was recently named among the recipients of the 2011 Lithuanian National Arts and Culture Prize, the Kaunas State Choir, and French conductor Olivier Grangean who has made some unforgettable appearances in Vilnius in the past few years. They will present a rich programme which dovetails lucid classicism with contemplative romanticism – that is, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, and Francis Poulenc.

A Gust of New Ideas – a Concert of Gediminas Gelgotas and NI&Co at the Philharmonic
On January 25th, the stage of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society will be occupied by the string ensemble NI&Co, founded in 2006 by a composer and conductor Gediminas Gelgotas, a graduate of the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Essential Classics for the Orchestra and Two Pianos, and a Glimpse at Contemporary Spanish Music
January 21, at 7 pm, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra invites its audiences to its first concert this year at the Main Auditorium of the National Philharmonic Hall. The programme features works by Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and contemporary Spanish composer Víctor Carbajo. The Orchestra will appear under the baton of the guest conductor from Romania, Cristian Florea, together with the soloing piano duo from Switzerland made of Lithuanian-born pianists Vilija Poškutė and Tomas Daukantas.

Gathering Pace in Year 2012
Christmas and New Year concerts were followed by the period of seeming calm at the National Philharmonic Society. But this state will not last long. Special event concerts will soon open the gates to the year 2012. During January – February, the Philharmonic is planning to present more than 50 concert programmes in Vilnius alone. Another 8 programmes are going to take place in Trakai, as part of the traditional Music in Trakai Castle series. Each month, over a dozen programmes will be presented at different Lithuanian cities and towns as well.
