Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra Concert Series
NIGHT SERENADES
The annual classical concert series, organised by the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra since 1971, is an open-air event in the seaside resort town of Palanga.

Beautiful evenings of classical music usually take place on the terrace of the Tiškevičius Manor House
– present Amber Museum – from the end of July to mid-August. The roster of internationally acclaimed Lithuanian and foreign performers have graced the calm atmosphere of Night Serenades, including the distinguished Lithuanian singers and instrumentalists; philharmonic chamber groups; violinists Gidon Kremer, Oleg Kagan, Tatyana Grindenko, and Vilhelmas Čepinskis; cellists Natalya Gutman, Karine Georgian, Mark Drobinsky and Vytautas Sondeckis; and clarinettist Eddy Vanoosthuyse.
39th Season: 5–7 August 2009
The Night Serenades Concert Series seems to reflect the elegant Neo-Renaissance architecture of Count Tiškevičius Mansion in its annual programmes of light classics, which characteristically encompass a variety of styles and influences from the breathtaking Baroque masterpieces to the Classical icons of the First Viennese School and beyond. The current series is no exception, showcasing Mozart’s ever-popular Eine kleine Nachtmusik; Händel’s aria Lascia ch’io pianga that could make swoon even a man of his heftiness; Vivaldi’s elemental Four Seasons; and Haydn’s Concerto for two lire organizzate – the instrument so rare at the time that the composer had to jot down a version for a more ubiquitous combination of soloing flute and oboe. The works by Baroque and Classical masters, performed by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra together with an illustrious lineup of guest soloists for the 40th season in a row, seems like a kind of an old custom. But instead of being die-hard traditionalism, it is a living form and spirit of a tradition that has preserved its authenticity and an aura shaped by the music, the musicians, the place and the public alike.
