Mstislav Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation “Support to Lithuanian Children” was established 23 April 2003. From this memorable day until his death (27 April 2007), Rostropovich served as the president of this Foundation. He himself was actively involved in teaching, attended young performers’ concerts. In fact, the eminent cellist nurtured friendship with Lithuanian musicians. He used to say: ”I cherish everything that is associated with Lithuania." Numerous charitable events, international concert tours of Lithuanian collectives and performers initiated by the Maestro, concerts with his participation, master classes, every possible support for talented youth still remind this indefatigable musician, who gave so many memorable moments to Lithuania.
The guest soloist in this programme is sixteen-year-old Ingmar Lazar, a child prodigy from France who currently studies piano in Hanover (Germany). At the age six he made his debut at the prestigious Salle Gaveau in Paris and at nine gave his first recital abroad. Now he studies under renowned pianists, such as Vladimir Krainev, Vladimir Viardo and Mūza Rubackytė. A winner of numerous competitions, Lazar performs with the leading European orchestras. His broad repertoire ensompasses piano works from different epochs. For his concert in Vilnius, Lazar chose several works by Chopin. His Lithuanian colleague Gryta Tatorytė will perform music by French composers. Among other works featured in the programme are compositions by Michaël Lévinas, the eminent contemporary French composer and pianist, son of the famous Lithuanian-born philosopher Emmanuel Levinas. The composer intends to attend this concert.
