Part of the VILNIUS FESTIVAL 2011
According to the Lithuanian Music Information and Publishing Centre, the Lithuanian composer of the day Vidmantas Bartulis “can write anything – from chamber miniatures to opera and large orchestral works, from harmonizations of folk songs to huge open-air events, from a monumental Requiem to music for fashion shows, arrangements of pop hits.”
The 15th Vilnius Festival closes with his monumental Requiem (1989) bringing together major Lithuanian performing forces to the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Led by Robertas Šervenikas, an ardent advocate of Lithuanian music, the Lithuanian soloists of younger generation – Sandra Janušaitė, Vaidas Vyšniauskas and Egidijus Dauskurdis, and four collectives including the Ąžuoliukas Boys' and Youth Choir and the Kaunas State Choir, the Trimitas Wind Instruments Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra dedicate the staged performance of Requiem to the Day of Mourning and Hope.
