Osvaldas Balakauskas is a postmodern modernist. New harmonies generate a peculiar, intriguing sound-climate, which is recognisable as ‘Balakauskas’ tonality.’ His music is regularly performed at various festivals in Lithuania and abroad. In 1997, the Krakow Academy of Music published the first of four parts comprising his Dodecatonic…. In 2002, “Baltos lankos” published the book Osvaldas Balakauskas. Music and Thoughts, a comprehensive collection of articles, interviews and essays dedicated to the personality, musical and literary output of the composer. To date, Osvaldas Balakauskas’ discography includes 5 portrait CDs of his music.

 

Osvaldas Balakauskas served as the Ambassador of Lithuania to France, Spain and Portugal, for several years he was the Head of Composition Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. He is a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize, and the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas.
