Part of the ORCHESTRAL MUSIC SERIES

As versatile as ever the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra this time offers classical, early romantic and 20th-c. opuses. The programme features Mendelssohn’s Scherzo, inspired by Walpurgis Night from Goethe’s Faust, depicting a Sea Fest in which characters of pre-Homerian myths, Greek Gods and nature philosophers worship Eros, the god of love, fertility and passion; Haydn’s graceful Violin Concerto and Paganini’s mellifluous Cantabile; Sarasate's sensual Gypsy Airs and the symphony Voices by Latvian composer Vasks’ , one of his most celebrated works, symbolically and historically reflecting Latvia’s final steps towards independence and deeply rooted in local ethnic sound vocabulary (beauty of voices of Baltic nature).
Pablo de Sarasate. Gypsy Airs (Sergej Krylov and the Russian National Orchestra / Mikhail Pletnev)
