Part of the ORCHESTRAL MUSIC SERIES

The music by Frédéric Chopin, a piano poet, one of the subtlest lyricists of the 19th century, fascinates by genuineness, emotional range, melodical beauty and graciousness. His music projects barely sensible, indescribable inner vibrations. Unrestrictedly flowing melodies, filigree figurations, transparent passages, tender sonorities filled with human warmth. His entire output is saturated with Polish folk music intonations and rhythms. Having blossomed in the period of Polish movement for independence Chopin’s fragile art became a symbol of proud and freedom-loving nation. As Schumann aptly noticed: “Chopin’s works are cannon buried under flowers!” The composer was confiding his most secretive feelings and thoughts to the piano, discovering various ways ‘to sing on keys’ in order to find a new piano sound – tender and lyrical. Second Piano Concerto, his early composition, will be performed by French pianist Philippe Giusiano. At the age seventeen he became the youngest laureate of the 12th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw having earned recognition from Polish press and audience alike. Five years later he returned to this prestigious competition to win second prize and international acclaim.
