Part of the ORCHESTRAL MUSIC SERIES

A loyall friend of the orchestra, cellist David Geringas returns to Lithuania, gracing the podium at Saturday’s orchestral music concert. He will lead two distinguished professionals of their trade – the Lithuanian National Symphonic Orchestra and the Kaunas State Choir in monumental compositions by Bronius Kutavičius and Johannes Brahms.

Mystique, revelation, passage of time… Comments of this kind are often used to characterise the music of Bronius Kutavičius. The breath of eternity is also felt in his Epitaphium, symbolically sounding out the most important pages in Lithuania’s history – Lithuania’s christening, establishing of Vilnius city and the University, return of the Cathedral to the Catholic community. Brahms’ First Symphony was symbolical for the composer himself – having been maturing for more than twenty years the composition became an affirmation for the composer himself and music world that the rich lode of brilliant symphonist Beethoven is not yet exhausted and the era of romantic symphonism is just beginning.
