Part of the ORCHESTRAL MUSIC SERIES

In concord with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society’s 70th anniversary the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, one of the foremost participants of the local classical music scene as well as the first ambassador for the Lithuanian culture on the international scene, also marks its 50th anniversary. Together with the world-class Lithuanian pianist Mūza Rubackytė the Orchestra programs Alfred Schnittke’s dialectic Piano Concerto, afflicted with tension between thesis and antithesis (from the chants of the old believers and contemplative episodes to dodecaphonic series and elemental aggression of the dissonance) and Mozart’s Piano Concerto, full of contradicting states (from the magnificent lustre to haunting melancholia). Half way into the programme the Orchestra will premiere a new work by Mindaugas Urbaitis, a “voice” of contemporary music in Lithuania.
