Part of the ORCHESTRAL MUSIC SERIES
Juozas Domarkas will treat the audience to the gems of German classicism. The concert will open with Coriolan Overture – a glimpse into the tragic faith of the hostile Roman military leader. The Second Piano Concerto, another opus by the venerated Viennese classicist, will feature Gabrielius Alekna, a second-prize winner of the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna (2005). In 2006, he was the first Lithuanian to hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School. G. Alekna’s recent engagements have included solo recitals in Vienna’s Musikverein, “Liszt in Vredenburg“ in Utrecht (the Netherlands), Chicago University and Adelphi University (New York), Bösendorfer (Vienna) and Yamaha (New York) recital halls, Music Festival of the Hamptons (New York), events in Boston and Washington D.C.
The friends of the National Philharmonic will enjoy Asta Krikščiūnaitė’s second interpretation of R. Strauss’ résumé of his life accomplishment, his musical testimony – the vocal cycle Four Last Songs, favoured by sopranos around the world.
