In autumn 2009 the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society hosted the 1st Vilnius Piano Music Festival, which relevantly integrated in Lithuania’s Millennium celebration. This year you are welcome to the 2nd Vilnius Piano Music Festival dedicated to the legacy of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and the death centenary of the Lithuanian genius Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The Festival’s opening concert features pianist Mūza Rubackytė, the Festival’s initiator and artistic director, conductor Stefan Lano (USA, Switzerland) and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra performing works by two Mohicans of the 19th-century musical world – Wagner and Liszt, father-in-law and son-in-law. The performers will present symphonic preludes, arresting Isolde’s death scene from Wagner’s operas Die Meistersinger and Tristan und Isolde, as well as two piano concertos by Liszt.
