Vilnius String Quartet and singer Liudas Mikalauskas invite to spend the afternoon in the Great Hall of Trakai Castle. The concert programme features songs by Lithuanian composers written to Jonas Mačiulis-Maironis’ poems, as well as texts by Vanda Zaborskaitė and Erika Drungytė, works by Juozas Naujalis, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Juozas Pakalnis, and the premiere of vocal cycle for the bass and string quartet by Giedrius Kuprevičius. “Due to Maironis’150th birth anniversary the year 2012 was announced the Year of Maironis – one of the spiritual leaders and defenders of the Lithuanian romantic state. I am not indifferent to this jubilee. I just finished working on the cycle for the bass and string quartet In the Voice of Maironis. Liudas Mikalauskas asked me to compose a work on the poems by Maironis. I am happy to see our performers’ attention to national culture.” (G. Kuprevičius)
