Musical Metamorphoses concert features Rūta and Zbignevas Ibelhauptas Piano Duo enriching the 2nd Vilnius Piano Music Festival with yet another form of piano music making. The Duo formed in 1989. Both pianists graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The Duo has captured prizes in a number of international competitions and participated in various music projects in Lithuania and abroad. The Duo’s repertoire embraces works for two pianos and piano four hands from baroque to present-day. The ensemble is an ardent advocate of Lithuanian contemporary music, has initiated and premiered many works by Lithuanian composers. The Duo’s concerts are regularly broadcast on radio and TV. In 1997, Rūta and Zbignevas were awarded the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize.
The concert programme includes the piano duo compositions rarely performed in Lithuania – Maestro Jonas Aleksa’s piano duo transcription of Čiurlionis’ symphonic poem In the Forest and Liszt’s six symphonic poems transcribed for two pianos by the composer himself.
