Part of the MUSIC IN TRAKAI CASTLE series

Well-known string players formed the Chordos Quartet in 1997; its name comes from Greek word chorde – a string. The four musicians promulgate the latest Lithuanian music at home and abroad, and introduce the foremost contemporary opuses to the Lithuanian audience.

The guest of the programme – the Norwegian singer Stein Skjervold, who, according to the international press, is a world-class baritone. He has held several lieder recitals in Lithuania. After a concert with songs by Beethoven, Brahms and Britten the culture newspaper 7 meno dienos wrote: “His professionalism fits nicely in with unaffectedness. His performance style emanates the sense of freedom. Every word has its unique sonority and colour, its place within a phrase, its accent.  Sentimentality and superficiality are foreign to Stein Skjervold. His choice of expression means, tempos and phrasing is superb, thus dramaturgical flow does not get tensed, reveals general mood.”
