“Everything starts with a very simple melody, which gradually takes roots in our hearts. Indeed, nobody sings opera when tying to put child to sleep. It is important that children hear our folk songs from a very early age. The deeper that melody takes root in the heart the bigger the wish will grow to get to know and develop it. That is a wondrous thing; one only has to understand it. Many of our poets learnt from and drew inspiration from our folk songs. Not from opera arias and not from jazz, but from our ancient folk songs, for it is inexhaustible well,” says Veronika Povilionienė, whose name for many of us has become a synonymous with our ancient folk songs. Indeed, the way the long-lived song dissolves in today’s musical flow and the way its meandering melody inspires classical and jazz improvisers is very interesting! The idea to experience it once more brought together singers, string players and celebrated jazzmen who are going to intrigue everyone with their vocal and instrumental compositions.
