Musica Humana’s favoured early music sounds especially impressively and cosy when performed in venues revoking our formidable past. Established 35 years ago on the initiative of Prof. Algirdas Vizgirda, the ensemble set its first steps under the Dome of the Vilnius Cathedral, then proceeded with its monumental concert series Early Music of Europe, Baroque Route, French Music. Renaissance to Contemporary, Bach and Lithuanian Music in the Arsenal and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vilnius. Musica Humana has been the main performer of the International Festival Kuršių Nerija, which has been held in Nida’s and Juodkrantė’s churches for eleven years. In Trakai Castle Hall the ensemble presents one of its most beautiful programmes – Antonio Vivaldi, the Genius of Venice. Antonio Vivaldi was a virtuoso violinist himself, well known for his innovative playing techniques. His expression means and expressivity put him a wide step ahead of his contemporaries. Vivaldi is considered to be the originator of the concerto for solo instrument, summarizing the long process of the soloist’s growing dominance. His pre-classicist solo concerto is scored for a small string group, led by the violin or other soloist. The three-movement (fast-slow-fast) form exhibits ideals of the art of “well organised contrast”. With the competition between the soloist and ritornello displaying theatrical elements the solo concerto was meant for a larger audience. Vivaldi’s oeuvre includes 40 operas and a number of church music works.

 

Vocal works by the Great Venetian will be performed by Julija Stupnianek, the soloist of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet theatre, a winner of international competitions in Vienna, Moscow, Vilnius and Kiev and recipient of the Opera Light and the Hope of the Opera of the Year awards. She took part in Baroque music (Poland), Usedom Music Festival (Germany), Baltic Music festivals in Rostock (Germany) and Helsinki (Finland), Gaida and Pažaislis international festivals.
