He is a versatile musician: original improviser, pedagogue, multi-instrumentalist and leader of various jazz groups. In his music he blends jazz, classical, experimental and alternative music experience. His music touches many hearts creating inimitable atmosphere, raising questions, inviting to meet again… That is an epigrammatic characteristic of Vytautas Labutis. His colleague Artūras Anusauskas, a pianist, composer, the head of Jazz Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, is the winner of Grand Prix at the Birštonas Jazz, laureate of the Leipzig International Improvisation Competition, participant of prestigious jazz events, leader of international master classes. His discography amounts to nineteen CDs, four of which – personal. Combining academic schooling and jazz improvisation enables the pianist to masterfully blend both vocabularies not shying away from spontaneity.
