To mark the 40th Anniversary of the Čiurlionis Quartet
and the 75th anniversary of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre

JOHANNES BRAHMS – String Quartet in C minor, Op. 51 No. 1
FRANZ ANTON HOFFMEISTER – Quartet for clarinet, violin, viola and cello No. 1 in B flat major
PIET SWERTS – Quintet for calrinet and string quartet (Lithuanian premiere)
The 2008 concert season is very intensive for the Čiurlionis Quartet for the ensemble celebrates its 40th anniversary. Last season the Quartet toured in Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Bulgaria, appeared in Dresdner Musikfestspiele in Germany, and enjoyed enthusiastic reviews after the performance with young talented Swiss clarinettist Karin Dornbusch.
This time the Quartet will collaborate with Eddy
Vanoosthuyse, another celebrated European clarinettist. The two partners will give Lithuanian premiere to the Quintet by Belgian Piet Swerts, and indulge the audience with the Clarinet Quartet by Viennese Franz Anton Hoffmeister. With this programme the members of the Čiurlionis Quartet pay tribute to the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, their Alma Mater celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
