Part of the GAIDA Festival
Contemporary music festival Gaida, one of the leading forums for contemporary music in Central Europe, is being organised for the twentieth year in a row (since 1991). Open to the music of every tradition and geographical latitude the festival has in recent years presented many intriguing projects. In 2007, it offered an investigation into human voice as a manifold music instrument, in 2009 it advertised different cities of the world and in 2008 the festival became a striking event of the World Music Days. The Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the main partners of the festival, presents new contemporary music programmes annually. This year for the festival closing concert the LNSO, together with French cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton and Lithuanian violist Arūnas Statkus, introduce the latest works by Giorgio Battistelli and Wolfgang Rihm, as well as two premieres by Algirdas Martinaitis.
